Meet the Team
Ryo Yanagitani is an internationally acclaimed concert pianist and is also highly in demand as a pedagogue and arts administrator. He currently holds the position of Artistic Director for The Listening Room series at Evermay in Washington, DC, and holds the title of Visiting Adjunct Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano at Shenandoah Conservatory. He has in the past spearheaded musical and educational collaborations with renowned organizations including the Ellington School for the Arts, The Boys and Girls Club of Washington, DC, and the Library of Congress, and he hopes to continue the grassroots work of bringing the diaspora of DC arts institutions closer together.
Among his many accolades, Ryo was the gold medal winner of the 10th San Antonio International Piano Competition. He is also a two-time awardee of the Canada Council for the Arts Emerging Artist grant, and a recipient of the Sony Foundation of America Career Grant through the Salon de Virtuosi of New York. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia and the Cleveland Institute of Music and was conferred a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Yale School of Music.
Ryo is honored to be a part of the Evermay team as its artistic representative and hopes to see a future where music and the arts become an integral part of education on a global level. Music performance being an amalgamation of everything from mathematics and social studies to physical education, it serves as a powerful vessel for nurturing community enrichment and understanding for a better world.
